Knitting 101: The Basics

Ready to begin your knitting journey? Or perhaps it has been a while and you need a refresher to get back on track? Join us for a comprehensive, two-part introduction to the craft. We focus on the core mechanics of knitting—learning how to hold your needles, tensioning yarn in the English-style (yarn in the right hand), and transforming strands into fabric using the knit stitch.

  • Session 1: We begin by helping you select your materials, which are included in the price of the class. We’ll practice holding the needles and yarn to build muscle memory as you learn the basic knit stitch. Once you have a few rows under your belt, we’ll practice “reading” your knitting so you can understand your fabric and handle mistakes without worry. We will finish by getting you started on your first project.

  • At-Home Practice: You will take your project home between sessions to continue building your rhythm and muscle memory.

  • Session 2: We will evaluate your progress and customize your learning based on your specific needs, helping you take the next steps in your personal knitting journey.

Throughout the course, we emphasize a "no-panic" approach. You will learn that many common "errors" are actually desired techniques used in other patterns, helping you navigate your new hobby with confidence and curiosity.

Please note: To ensure the best experience for everyone, we ask that all students review the store’s class policy prior to registration.
